The recent Harvest Festival in Barangay Hibao-an Norte, Mandurriao, marks a significant milestone in community-driven agriculture, showcasing the transformative impact of collaboration among local farmers, the City Agriculturist Office, private sector partners, and MORE Power.
Launched in celebration of MORE Power’s 5th anniversary, this initiative provided local farmers with free seedlings, expert training from Allied Botanical Corporation, and ongoing support from the City Agriculturist Office and Uswag Nursery. Over three months, 15 planting plots were cultivated, yielding nearly 100 kilograms of high-value vegetables—including lettuce, pechay, bok choy, eggplant, ampalaya, and okra.
The Harvest Festival is far more than a one-time event; it is a model for sustainable community development. By reinvesting harvest proceeds as capital for the next planting season, the program establishes a cycle of growth and self-sufficiency.
This approach not only boosts the productivity and income of local farmers but also strengthens food security for the entire community.
Through this initiative, farmers have gained access to modern agricultural techniques and sustainable farming practices, empowering them to adapt and thrive in an urban setting.
“MORE Power is more than just a power distribution company—it strives to support and uplift the farmers of Iloilo City. Our advocacy to back food producers is strengthened by strong partnerships, especially with MORE Power,” said Mr. Iñigo Garingalao, Head of the Iloilo City Agriculturist Office.
By fostering such collaborations, MORE Power reaffirms its commitment to the progress and well-being of Iloilo City. The Harvest Festival stands as a clear demonstration of how united efforts can nurture communities, empower individuals, and lay the groundwork for a greener, healthier, and more prosperous future, planting the seeds for continuous growth for years to come.
