Iloilo Arts Festival 2025 Opens Ilonggo Cinema Festival with Acclaimed Film ‘Cande’


The Ilonggo Cinema Festival (iCFest) officially launched at Festive Walk Cinemas featuring award-winning Ilonggo filmmaker Kevin Piamonte’s acclaimed “Cande” as opening film. Leading the premier together with Piamonte was Iloilo Arts Festival Assistant Festival Director Jay Treñas, Megaworld Museum Manager JP Libo-on, and key figures in the local arts and movie industry. 

Film Lineup

Running from October 24 to 26, the iCFest presents a diverse lineup of over 20 Ilonggo short and full-length films, each offering compelling storytelling and thought-provoking social narratives. The festival shines a spotlight on the rich creativity of local filmmakers and their unique perspectives on life, culture, and community.

On October 24, the festival showcases the first two sets of films. Set A entitled “Kalag Sang Misteryo,” features genres of drama, mystery, suspense, and social commentary. The films in this lineup include:

  • Ang Bukay nga Butitis
  • Sa Bilog nga Kahon
  • Waiting Shed
  • Ganyat
  • Ang Tinuga sa Espejo
  • Purya Usog
  • Nay Magding

Audiences will also have the opportunity to watch seven films participating in the short film competition

  • Laya Nga Ginhawa
  • Sintas Kang Mga Aswang
  • Kung Ang Bawa Masakitan
  • Ang Pulong Sang Mga Baboy
  • I Am Art
  • Nay Magding
  • Ang Bukay Nga Batitis

On October 25, Set B, “Aninaw Sang Kabuhi,” pushes the audience to explore existential narratives and delve into life beyond its superficiality. Highlighted films include: 

  • Huni Sang Kataw
  • Ang Gadya Sa Uba
  • I Am Art
  • Marikudo
  • Sintas Kang Mga Aswang
  • Turil

On October 26, Set C transports the audience to otherworldly dimensions, featuring encounters with monsters in various forms. Entitled “Garhum Sang Kaduduluman,” this set boldly embraces the genres of horror, suspense, and social commentary with films such as:

  • Itom Nga Bugas Kanaryo Nga Ugat
  • Kung Ang Bawa Masakitan
  • Ang Pulong Sang Mga Baboy
  • Laya Nga Ginhawa
  • Liwat
  • Ang Bistida Ni Ana Sa Mata Nga Pula

Set D, “Pagkabutaw Sa Mga Kamatuoran,” is dedicated to public enlightenment, showcasing documentaries and powerful narrative drama stories. Its lineup includes:

Championing Local Cinema

The Ilonggo Cinema Festival not only serves as a platform for established and emerging filmmakers, but also introduces its first Short Film Grants Competition, which will award three Ilonggo film projects with ₱40,000 each. These winning short films will premiere at the 2026 edition of iCFest, strengthening the region’s growing cinematic movement.

As one of the featured activities under the Iloilo Arts Festival 2025, iCFest underscores Iloilo Business Park’s ongoing commitment to nurturing Ilonggo creativity across disciplines—film, fashion, visual arts, and performance—further cementing its role as the city’s Center of Arts and Culture.
